HP ProBook 440 G3/430 G3/640 G3 Keyboard, Backlit (P/N 840801-001)

HP ProBook 440 G3/430 G3/640 G3 Replacement Keyboard, Backlit

Fix a broken or unresponsive keyboard on your HP ProBook 440 G3, 430 G3, or 640 G3 with this genuine-fit backlit replacement (P/N 840801-001). A direct drop-in fit built to the original specification.

HP shared this keyboard design across three ProBook G3 lines because they use the same 14-inch key well and mounting layout, so one genuine-fit part covers all three models rather than needing a separate SKU for each. If your current keyboard has cracked keycaps, a backlight that no longer works, or dead key rows, this replacement brings it back to factory condition. It is also a common fix after a liquid spill has left certain keys sticky or completely unresponsive.

Key Features

• Backlit Keys – type comfortably in low light, evenly lit across the deck
• Direct Fit – matches the original ProBook 440/430/640 G3 layout precisely
• Brand New – not refurbished, not a used pull
• Includes Backlight Cable – ready to install straight out of the box
• US Layout – standard QWERTY English keyboard with correct legends
• Reinforced Frame – solid backing plate minimises flex during typing
• Consistent Key Feel – factory-matched travel and actuation force
• One Part, Three Models – a single SKU to stock for 440 G3, 430 G3, and 640 G3 repairs

Compatibility & Installation

Built specifically for the shared HP ProBook 440 G3, 430 G3, and 640 G3 chassis, this keyboard uses the same connector and pinout as the original part, so it plugs straight into the existing motherboard header. Most swaps take 15-20 minutes with a small screwdriver, and the mounting tabs line up exactly with the factory chassis, so there is no cutting, filing, or forcing required. The palm rest and trackpad stay untouched throughout the process.

Performance & Reliability

Every keyboard is bench-tested for key response and backlight evenness before it is packed for shipping, so there are no dead keys or dim zones out of the box. The key switches are rated for the same duty cycle as the original HP part, holding up to daily office or classroom typing rather than wearing out within months like some low-cost substitutes. Backlight brightness stays consistent whether the laptop is a 440 G3, 430 G3, or 640 G3 build.

Ideal Users & Use Cases

This replacement suits professionals and students using any of the 440 G3, 430 G3, or 640 G3 as a daily-use laptop, repair technicians who need one reliable part to cover three related ProBook models, and IT departments keeping a single spare part number in stock for mixed ProBook G3 fleets. It also suits resellers preparing used ProBook G3 units for resale.
