HP EliteBook 840 G3-G4 Keyboard, Backlit (P/N 836308-001)

HP EliteBook 840 G3-G4 Replacement Keyboard, Backlit

Restore your HP EliteBook 840 G3 or 840 G4 laptop to full working order with this genuine-fit backlit replacement keyboard (P/N 836308-001). If your existing keyboard has missing keys, a cracked frame, or unresponsive keys, this is a direct drop-in replacement built to the original specification.

The 840 G3/G4 generation introduced a slightly redesigned key well compared to earlier EliteBook 840 models, and this keyboard is tooled specifically to that revision rather than being a one-size-fits-all part. That means the trackpoint alignment, function-row icons, and mounting tabs all line up exactly as they did on the day the laptop left the factory. Owners typically reach for this replacement after a liquid spill, a cracked keycap from repeated impact, or years of use wearing down the most-used letters and the space bar.

Key Features

• Backlit Keys – type comfortably in low-light conditions with even backlight spread
• Direct Fit – matches the original HP EliteBook 840 G3/G4 layout exactly, no cutting or filing
• Brand New – not refurbished or pulled from a used unit
• Includes Keyboard + Backlight Cable – ready to install as a complete kit
• US Layout – standard QWERTY English keyboard with correctly printed legends
• Durable Keycaps – laser-etched lettering that resists rubbing off with daily use
• Firm Deck – reinforced backplate keeps the keyboard from flexing under typing pressure
• Pointer Stick Included – the red trackpoint nub ships fitted and ready to use

Compatible Models

HP EliteBook 840 G3, HP EliteBook 840 G4, and the closely related 745 G3/G4 chassis, which shares the same keyboard well and mounting points. Always confirm your exact model number on the base of the laptop before ordering, since HP reused similar chassis designs across several EliteBook generations, and an incorrect match can leave screw holes or the trackpad cable misaligned.

Performance & Reliability

Each keyboard is tested for key travel, contact reliability, and backlight consistency before it is packed for shipping, so every key registers cleanly from the first use. The switch mechanism is built to the same actuation force and durability rating as the original HP component, avoiding the spongy feel and early wear common with generic aftermarket keyboards.

Customers who have previously tried unbranded substitutes often notice the difference immediately: keys sit level with one another, the backlight does not bleed unevenly around the edges, and the overall typing feel matches what the laptop shipped with originally.

Ideal Users & Use Cases

This replacement suits professionals and students relying on their EliteBook 840 for daily typing-heavy work, repair shops handling walk-in keyboard swaps, and corporate IT teams maintaining a fleet of 840 G3/G4 units where a fast, reliable fix keeps staff laptops in service without a full unit replacement. It is also a practical choice for resellers refreshing used units before resale.
