HP ProBook 450/455/650 G8/ZBook Firefly G8-G9 Keyboard, Backlit (P/N M21742-001)

HP ProBook 450/455/650 G8/ZBook Firefly G8-G9 Replacement Keyboard, Backlit

Fix a broken or unresponsive keyboard on your HP ProBook 450 G8, 455 G8, 650 G8, or ZBook Firefly G8/G9 with this genuine-fit backlit replacement (P/N M21742-001). A direct drop-in fit built to the original specification.

HP standardised this key well and mounting layout across several G8-era 15.6-inch business and mobile-workstation chassis, so one genuine-fit part covers keyboard repairs across all of them without needing a separate SKU for each model. If your current keyboard has cracked or missing keycaps, a backlight that no longer works, or key rows that have stopped responding, this replacement restores it to full working order. It is also a common fix after a liquid spill has left certain keys sticky or unreliable.

Key Features

• Backlit Keys – type comfortably in low light, evenly lit across the full-size deck
• Direct Fit – matches the original ProBook/ZBook Firefly G8-G9 layout, including the arrow cluster
• Brand New – not refurbished, not a used pull
• Includes Backlight Cable – ready to install straight out of the box
• US Layout – standard QWERTY English keyboard with correct legends
• Solid Backing Plate – reduced flex across the larger 15.6-inch deck
• Even Key Travel – factory-matched feel rather than a shallow substitute
• One Part, Multiple Models – a single SKU covering ProBook 450/455/650 G8 and ZBook Firefly G8/G9

Compatibility & Installation

Built specifically for the shared G8-era ProBook and ZBook Firefly chassis, this keyboard uses the same connector and pinout as the original part, plugging straight into the existing motherboard header. Most swaps take 15-20 minutes with a small screwdriver, and because the mounting tabs align exactly with the factory chassis, there is no cutting, filing, or forcing needed to seat it correctly. The palm rest and trackpad assembly stay untouched throughout the swap.

Performance & Reliability

Every keyboard is bench-tested for key response and backlight uniformity before it ships, so there are no dead keys or dim backlight zones out of the box. The key switches are rated for the same duty cycle as the original HP part, standing up to daily office or mobile-workstation use rather than wearing out quickly like some generic substitutes. Backlight brightness stays even across the wider deck rather than fading toward the edges.

Ideal Users & Use Cases

This replacement suits professionals relying on any of these ProBook or ZBook Firefly models for daily typing-heavy work, repair technicians who want one reliable part covering several related models, and IT departments stocking a single spare for mixed business-laptop and mobile-workstation fleets. It also suits resellers refreshing used units across these model lines before resale.
