HP EliteBook 840 G7-G8 Keyboard, Backlit (P/N M07091-001)

HP EliteBook 840 G7-G8 Replacement Keyboard, Backlit

Fix a broken or unresponsive keyboard on your HP EliteBook 840 G7 or 840 G8 with this genuine-fit backlit replacement (P/N M07091-001). A direct drop-in fit built to the original specification.

The G7/G8 generation kept the same narrow-bezel 840 chassis introduced with the G5/G6 refresh, and this keyboard is tooled to that specific key well rather than being adapted from an older 840 mould. If your keyboard has cracked or missing keycaps, a backlight that no longer lights up, or entire rows that have stopped responding, this part restores it to full working order. It is also a common fix after a liquid spill has left certain keys sticky or unreliable, or after years of heavy daily use have simply worn the switches down.

Key Features

• Backlit Keys – type comfortably in low light, with consistent brightness across rows
• Direct Fit – matches the original 840 G7/G8 layout, including trackpoint and mouse buttons
• Brand New – not refurbished, not a used pull
• Includes Backlight Cable – ready to install, nothing extra to buy
• US Layout – standard QWERTY English keyboard with correct legends
• Rigid Backplate – minimal flex even under firm typing
• Smooth Key Action – consistent actuation force across the whole deck
• Precise Cutouts – speaker grille and hinge clearance line up exactly with the chassis

Compatibility & Installation

Designed specifically for the HP EliteBook 840 G7 and 840 G8 chassis, this keyboard connects using the same ribbon cable and header as the factory part, so no rewiring or adapters are needed. Most swaps take 15-20 minutes with basic tools, and the palm rest assembly generally does not need to be removed. Because the mounting tabs and screw bosses are positioned exactly as HP specified, the keyboard sits flush with the deck rather than sitting slightly raised or crooked.

Performance & Reliability

Before shipping, each keyboard is tested key by key for response and backlight evenness, catching any dead keys or dim zones before the part ever reaches a customer. The key mechanism is rated for the same long-term use as an original HP keyboard, so it holds up under daily office or classroom typing rather than wearing out within months like some low-cost substitutes. Backlight brightness stays consistent across every key rather than fading unevenly toward the edges.

Ideal Users & Use Cases

This replacement is well suited to professionals whose 840 G7/G8 keyboard has failed from spillage or heavy use, IT technicians handling walk-in repairs, and organisations maintaining a stock of spares for EliteBook 840 fleets still deployed across their offices. It is also a sensible upgrade for anyone refurbishing a second-hand 840 G7/G8 unit before resale.
